Celo is an intentional community founded on principals of resource stewardship and consensus democracy in 1943 by Arthur Morgan, former TVA chairman and President of Antioch College in Ohio.

Map

Most of the current Celo Community members who build and live on community land are self-employed artists, blacksmiths, carpenters, musicians, weavers, sculptors, teachers, printers, and painters. Many are some combination of all of the above. Now they're helping build an online community, too. (click on the map to enlarge)

Cabin Fever
Life at Celo can bring bouts with boredom and cabin fever, particularly in the winter.

Eight Views Of Mt. Pisgah

Celo artist Bob Johnson sees a number of scenarios for the future of western North Carolina, as depicted in his series of oil and tempora paintings, "Eight Views of Mt. Pisgah."

Songs of Celo
Celo musicians Bruce Greene and Hilary Dirlam helped produce an art calendar with a companion audiotape called "Fiddler's Dozen." The songs "Sally" and "Frolic of the Frogs" represent the months of March and April, respectively. The song "Down the Road" is a traditional tune interpreted by Red Wilson and Bruce Greene.
